Not a Prayer

If there be a god anywhere in any form
trinity or serpentine, many minds or arms,
reach from the sky or wherever you sit,
press down on rubble and amputations,
touch fingers to ground, rebar and blood,
rumble your creations
into a ceasefire—

touch the leftovers, apply your balm. Though life is fleeting as it is, don’t let it go like this,

make life inch through time, generations meeting in pinched folds, make life seem long.
