Barbenheimer/Babalon

Barbenheimer/Babalon

by Annabelle Markwick-Staff

After Greta Gerwig, Christopher Nolan, Spencer Kansa, and the Barbenheimer memes.
For Marjorie Cameron and Jack Parsons.

I crashed into your life in a bolt of lightening &
took control. Don’t underestimate my Candy
cuteness – Babalon simmers beneath my pink

gingham dress and shell necklace.
I am an artist-poet
girt with a sword and presidential sash.

You are a rocket-fuelled magician, Kenough
to upraise me on your manly, plastic
shoulder as I bask in the apocalyptic flames.

The palm trees blush. My hair bow
sparkles with atomic stars. I drive my rosy
car into mushroom rainbow-floss veiling

the City of the Pyramids. You know
that I will blow you away, yet you sing to me,
follow me with chemical bright rollerblades.

Do you ever think about dying?
I dominate the Anthropocene Abyss,
swimsuit striped with Severity and Mercy.

I crush Choronzon beneath stilettos. Your naked
teeth smile up at me. It’s not the end of the world –
just Revelation through girly shades.
