New single The Heart And The Bone from Berlin-Based artist Darling Fitch is out TODAY on all digital platforms!
The Heart And The Bone combines cold, wind-swept instrumentation and intimately rough vocals in a bittersweet electronic ballad of resilience and survival. Dedicated to transgender people in the United States who are fighting against growing social and legal repression, The Heart And The Bone offers an embrace to anyone who has felt the loneliness and desperation of being an “outcast” and has clung to the beauty of life, against the odds.
Darling Fitch is no stranger to life as an outsider, and The Heart And The Bone is a deeply personal song. As a trans, working class immigrant artist, Fitch speaks from experience of the pain as well as the triumphs of seeking one’s truth. As one verse laments “you’ve never been so alone” the chorus answers: “anyone could be so proud to survive.”
The Heart And The Bone walks the line between sadness and hope, and makes space for both, at a time when it can seem difficult to know how to go on. Many of us are familiar with the feeling. Perhaps we aren’t so alone after all.
Darling Fitch is a US-born, Berlin-based writer, musician and performance artist. They have played legendary underground venues like NYC’s The Glove and LA’s Hushe Clubbe and in experimental art contexts such as Berlin Art Prize, the Dixon Place HOT! Fest (NYC), the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and the Month of Performance Art – Berlin. From 2015-19 Fitch toured their multidisciplinary solo shows A Stranger Sound (a dark transgender coming of age story set in Berlin’s queer club scene) and REVELATIONS (a hopeful, harsh noise poetry pop opera about the end of the world and our place in it). Combining spoken word, music, and interactive performance elements, Fitch’s shows bridge the traditional artist vs audience divide, fostering a sense of connection and community, however fleeting. In 2020 Fitch (along with the rest of the world) took a break from live work to focus on the craft of recording, transforming their signature intellectual-but-intimate ethos into a series of soon to be released songs.
