1
You were early blood
and a rain-blurred ER drive.
We’d dated two months,
but we wanted you.
2
You were named and heard,
but the sonographer stopped
talking, the screen still—
but we wanted you.
3
You were a ghost line
growing dimmer by the day.
We bought many tests
since we wanted you.
4
Each night in darkness
we wonder if you’ll make it,
the womb a faint star.
Please know we want you.
