her kind of love

her kind of love

By Corey Bryan

the kind of love he was
scared of was the kind of love
you find making small talk
over yogurt in the grocery
store. it was the kind of love
that makes the dehumanizing
fluorescent lights tolerable and warm.
the kind of love that makes you
smile as you pour a little cream
and sugar into a separate cup of coffee.
the kind of love that can make you
write a letter to home again.
the kind of love that shuts the
door as you enter the room.
the kind of love that makes your
heart beat like the wings of a moth, desperate
for the light. and like the moth
stuck in a lantern whose iron
door has snapped shut, sometimes
the best thing to do is fly into
the flame and embrace the warmth.
