By Robert Pegel
Trying to connect with anyone
including myself.
Searching in the general direction
of where signs of life remain
even if nothing really matters
in the end.
Temporary hope is better
than none.
Believe in something
because what’s it hurt
in the long run anyhow.
Fooling yourself isn’t foolish
if it provides protection
against the onslaught
of perennial pain.
Whatever gets you to tomorrow
as long as today
doesn’t kill you
and if it does
we all have to die
some day.
What’s the difference
between now or then,
it’s all been foretold anyhow
by something greater than me.
Fulfill the mission
and then you get to return home.
Wherever that may be.
